1978-1987 / Last Gasp Eco-Funnies

_
Anarchy Comics was a politically-oriented anthology comic book series launched by Jay Kinney in 1978 and published by Last Gasp through all four issues, up until 1987. When Kinney launched this series, he was a political cartoonist for the progressive news magazine In These Times, which clearly inflamed his passion for left-wing artists and opinions.

Each issue Anarchy Comics features an international cast of comic and non-comic contributors, including Clifford Harper (Class War Comix), Raymond Dog, Peter Pontiac and many others. Anarchy was one of the first comic anthologies to feature so many international cartoonists and writers, and Kinney made sure they represented a broad range of topics and styles. Anarchy Comics' four issues are infused with an array of comics, fiction, historical articles and commentary.

The first issue was perhaps the dryest, yet it is the one that has been reprinted twice and sold the most. The other three issues incorporate a bit more humor in them, which not only improves the reading but helps deliver the message more effectively.

Kinney would later become editor of Co-Evolution Quarterly and then publisher and editor-in-chief of Gnosis magazine. He has written two books, including The Masonic Myth: Unlocking the Truth About the Symbols, the Secret Rites, and the History of Freemasonry.
